Update...

Well they made it safely there Tuesday evening about 6pm our time. Since then, it has been a whirlwind of activity. They spent the evening with the youth from the church there over dinner and then just settled in.

Wednesday morning they were off and running to begin painting on a house that was not destroyed by flooding, but the roof had damage which allowed water to seep in and eventually rotted out the walls and interior. They were able to meet the owner and hear her story of what she experienced during Hurricane Katrina. Later that day they took a tour of the area which the church is located about 11 miles from where the levee's broke. Michael said it was very sobbering to see how much damage is still there 4 years later. There are tons of empty lots, comdemed houses and plenty of spray paint still on houses where the national guard noted if bodies were found or not. On a lighter note they got to visit the famous Cafe du Monde (which I was jealous of!!) and enjoyed some beignets (sp?).

Yesterday there was more painting for some of the teams and Michael let a group through parts of the area hanging signs on doors inviting people to church and their youth alpha program. Please keep them in prayer....they did put some hygiene packs together and take them down to the "wall" where lots of homeless people live.....so there are many there that need to hear of our Savior!!

Not sure what's in store yet for today....but I will keep you posted when I hear more!!
